BELLION TRAVELS MONTHLY RECAP: JANUARY 2021

AHHH! I wish we could go back to our “normal” life. I miss travelling and exploring new places but being stuck in Abu Dhabi during the pandemic, allowed us to discover the capital. However, now it is time to leave the big city and move back to Dubai. The city where I was born and the city of life.

Everyone is moving to new countries and new places but I keep going back to Dubai. I guess it is not yet our time to relocate to another country but we never know what tomorrow brings. Many things are happening now and I cannot wait to settle in our new home and start over.

So, let me share what has happened in the first month of 2021.

Destinations I have visited:

  • Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: I visited many new places and explored the city during 2020 and I will definitely write about it on a separate blog post.
  • Dubai, United Arab Emirates: I had to visit the city for an interview. Tim and I spent 24 hours in Dubai. We ate at Vietnamese Foodies and stayed at ROVE Downtown.

Highlights of the month:

  • I would say the biggest highlight is that I resigned from my job and will start a new career soon.
  • I enrolled for a Master’s Degree in Real Estate.
  • We finalised a new place in Dubai.
  • Packed 90% of our stuff in Abu Dhabi.
  • I was indirectly required to be vaccinated because I work for a semi-government company. Tim and I took the first dose of Sinopharm in January 2021.

Series I watched:

  • Wanda Vision: HBO is releasing an episode every week so we haven’t finished the series but so far I’m loving how weird it is.
  • Ramy (Season 1 & 2): As a Muslim half Arab, I can relate to some of the issues in the show. I personally prefer the other characters stories, they are a lot more interesting and I’m not fond of Ramy himself. I love that Mahershala Ali plays the Sheikh. He is one of my favourite actors. I cannot wait for Season 3.

Movies I watched:

We did not watch any move this month since we were super busy packing and watching series. Also, I have been super busy catching up with uni. but we made plan that once we move to Dubai and settle, we will have movie night.

Music:

A Mix of EVERYTHING.

Books I read:

I decided not to read anything but my studies. I also packed all my books and are waiting to be moved to Dubai.

2021 Update

2021 Update

Hi readers,

I couldn’t blog for weeks because I had a lot going on and I’m still busy but I’m glad I found the time to write. To write about how my 2021 started.

It started with a lot of sleep as we spent New Years at our friends place and my usual bed time is 10PM. The next day, Tim and I went to IKEA to buy cardboard boxes and other packing items to gradually start packing our place. Tim signed a lease contract in Dubai which starts on 1 March 2021. It is funny how people are leaving Dubai and moving back to their home countries but after Covid hit, we decided we won’t be leaving U.A.E anytime soon. Work wise, Dubai still looks promising.

Why we decided to move back to Dubai? The decision was initially made when Tim was informed that he had to work permanently from home due to Covid. Also, we haven’t seen my family for months because of the border restriction between Abu Dhabi and Dubai so it is bazaar that it is difficult to meet my dad and brothers who live in the same country. So, Tim and I agreed it would make more sense if we live in Dubai since he is working from home and my family and friends live there.

My concern was my job. I ruined my career by moving to Abu Dhabi and I took a massive step backwards with a very low salary and position which made me realise my capabilities because unfortunately, I was not able to see that before. I was so stressed about moving back to Dubai due to the commute and border control. If you do not know the reasons, it is because you need to take a covid test to enter Abu Dhabi. Anyway, I was fortunate enough to find a job in Dubai and I’m currently serving my one-month notice.

Another reason why moving to Dubai makes sense is my University is located in Dubai. I enrolled in a Masters Degree at Heriot Watt, I’m studying Commercial Management and Quantity Surveying. After having doubts about my career and what I want to do next, I concluded that my work passion is real estate. My mind is not as creative as it used to be and I think I’ve become more logical. Either it’s Tim’s influence on me or just as life goes on, we realise things and our passion in life. Definitely travel is my passion but I realised I do not want to be a travel vlogger but rather I want it to be my hobby and real estate to be my job.

One of the biggest things that happened this month is that I was indirectly forced to take the Covid vaccine. Since I had to take it, Tim said he might as well take it. It is a live together, die together decision. I took Sinopharm and I didn’t find any major side effects other than speaking fluent mandarin. Just kidding. With all seriousness I do not feel anything. My second dose will be on 2 Feb 2021 so lets see how that goes.

So, so far this is our update and we are just busy working, studying, packing and exploring Abu Dhabi on weekends before we officially move.

I will post a separate blog about places we have visited in Abu Dhabi in the past 4 months and show you another side of Abu Dhabi. Catch you later.

BELLION TRAVELS MONTHLY RECAP: NOVEMBER 2020

Here I am blogging about November 2020 Recap on 30 Dec. 2020. I can’t believe we are approaching end of 2020.

Today morning, my husband and I were discussing how we learned a lot from 2020 but also he said it was a useless year. We had a lot in mind, we were suppose to visit England to celebrate my sister-in-laws birthday, we were suppose to travel to Colombia and this year was suppose to be the year our condo in Philippines will be handed over but none of that happened. We spent 99% of our time in Abu Dhabi. I have a lot that happened but that will be a December 2020 recap because weirdly it all happened in December.

So let me share a quick recap of our November.

Highlight:

  • We were asked by the Government to quarantine for 14 days wearing a tracker because we were exposed to someone with Covid.
  • I was quarantined for 21 days in the month of November because I met someone who had Covid. Thankfully, we had no symptoms and were tested negative.
  • November 2020 was mainly spent at home.

Still trying to finish the books.

Here is a look at my GoodReads.

What did I blog about?

Nothing lol.

Current State of Mind

In the initial stages of quarantine I was doing great. Keeping in touch with family and friends, working from home, being able to do laundry while working from home, cooking, reading, exercising, etc.  That was for almost 2 months until I had to go back to work and the government closed the Abu Dhabi borders.

I thought getting back to the office would mean work life balance but I was wrong. There is a lot of work or as we say WORK OVERLOAD. For months now, I have been working like crazy and I work late nights and even if I finish a bit early, I’m too exhausted to do anything especially cook. We’ve been eating bread, eggs, cheese with chutney or instant noodles for God knows how long because of my lack of energy and motivation. I stopped reading and all I do right now is just sit on the sofa and binge watch series. I can’t even visit family and friends back in Dubai and Sharjah. Funny that we are in the same country and it is difficult to meet. I understand it is for the safety of the Abu Dhabi residence since the cases have been increasing but it is not helping my current mental state. I’m falling into some kind of depression.

I have no will to live and this is why I do not even want to blog. Thankfully, Abu Dhabi Malls, beaches, cinemas, etc have opened with restricted rules but I can at least go out and breathe. This is something to be grateful for but honestly, it is not the quarantine that is bothering me but the amount of work that is affecting my mental state and my physical state. I have been gaining a lot of weight due to sitting in front of the laptop for more than 10 hours. The only time I manage to walk is to  the toilet and back to my seat. Unfortunately, I do not get along with almost everyone in the office which is demotivating. My office is in the basement, my position is much lower than what I was doing in my previous job, low salary for what I’m doing, I listen to insults, scolding, orders….. and they show no respect. I wish someday I could find something new but the economy isn’t  great and I have loans to pay and dreams to achieve so money is what I need at the moment. Everyday I remind myself, I’m doing this job to get closer to my dream. I’m doing my best to stay positive and smile.

Last week was Tim’s birthday week which made me excited. I booked us a nice staycation in Abu Dhabi desert and had dinner at a fancy Peruvian restaurant on Al Maryah Island. I made sure I fought my inner demons and stayed positive for Tim. We went to the beach and I enjoyed listening to travel podcasts while looking at the water but I knew I was going to go back home and get ready to work which made me feel miserable. I’m really fighting this negative energy that I have. I want to start blogging, sketching, reading, exercising and I want to learn a new language and practice the other languages. I want to be able to see my family and friends whenever. I know the only person who can change this attitude is myself. Tim and I discussed this and since we have no plans living abroad at the moment or moving to a new place because of the economy, we want to move back to Dubai where my family and friends are so I can see them whenever. Also, with work I will just keep working until something changes but I know for a fact that this is all for a future plan and everything that is happening now is temporary and all I have to do is be patient.

As for hobbies and blogging, I will do my best to get myself back on track. I just hope the work load will decrease and I will be able to just focus on myself. I just want to remind myself this is all temporary and I’m just working for the money.

This blog post has no meaning just a venting platform.

BELLION TRAVELS MONTHLY RECAP: August 2020

I’m writing this blog post with no enthusiasm but I need to keep the recap going. I personally don’t know if I want to continue with this blog or just focus my time on my current job. A job that doesn’t excite me. Anyway this is for another time to post about.

Here is a quick recap of what happened in the month of August.

Destinations I’ve visited:

  • Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
  • Sharjah, United Arab Emirates
  • Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Highlights of the month:

  • My brother got engaged hence the reason we visited Sharjah and Dubai. Even though there is border control.
  • Tim and I had to do a medical test to be able to cross the border and enter Abu Dhabi. Thank God! Our corona results were negative.
  • I managed to take 2 weeks off after a whole year of working and for some reason the company I work for wants to illegally take away my remaining days off. Therefore, I have no other days off until next year.

BELLION TRAVELS MONTHLY RECAP: June 2020

I don’t know what it is but lately, I haven’t been in the mood to do anything. I don’t want to read, I don’t want to blog, I don’t want to go out……

Tim thinks its the early stages of depression. I just believe the quarantine, the lock down (not being able to visit my family in the same country), my job and many other factors are the reasons behind my current mental state but it is mainly work. I’m overloaded with work and we haven’t taken an annual leave for more than a year. I have been having high blood pressure which causes dizziness and nausea. So, I’m avoiding people at the moment and been eating healthy, going for walks, drinking cool drinks and doing things to reduce my stress.

I’m working really hard to distress myself and I do want to blog and I do want to surround myself with positive energy. I am doing my best.

Enough with negativity, here is a quick recap of my June.

Bellion Travels Monthly Recap: April 2020

Ramadan started and I’m finding it very difficult. Like, I’m not able to meet my family because of lock down. The curfew is at 10 PM and Iftar is at 7 PM and I still don’t trust staying at a hotel with all of this going on.

Working from home got extended to 21st May 2020 and honestly, I’m not looking forward to working from the office anytime soon. I found myself productive at home and I always have the energy to cook. I hate washing dishes though even with a dishwasher.

My update for the month of April is just about Movies and Series that I have watched while at staying at home.

Stay Home Stay Safe x

How we are spending our time at home due to Covid-19

Who has ever thought that when the virus was announced in January that it would turn into a world wide catastrophe. It is sad what the world is going through and how everyone’s life turned upside down and how businesses are not running smoothly but the planet is healing.

Tim and I are considered lucky and blessed that we are working from home, we have a home to keep us safe and a job to cover our expenses. Although I had a pay cut, I still consider it a blessing. I pray for each and every individual who is going through a difficult time during this crisis and I hope this will end soon.

Tim and I have been keeping ourselves busy and making sure we always have something to do. One of the pros of staying at home and being quarantined is that people get extremely bored and discover their hobbies and creativity. The amount of TikToks and videos that are going viral to entertain everyone in the globe is just wonderful.

We haven’t been doing anything crazy or anything extra ordinary but I would like to share with you, how we keep ourselves occupied all the time.

So here goes…

Weekdays from 8 AM – 5 PM: We have our breakfast and start working. During working hours, we put on music we never heard before or sometimes in my case, I listen to podcasts while working. Sometimes I do laundry, organise few things and cook lunch.

After 5 PM, we exercise a little then have dinner while watching Netflix. We also read books and take care of stray cats. We turned our porch and our back garden into a feeding station so cats can eat and we also place water for cats and birds to drink.

Quarantine09

On weekends, Tim gets to sleep a lot. He usually wakes up at 11 AM – 1 PM. I’m a morning person so I’m awake by 7 AM and make breakfast and read a book and by 10ish AM, I watch one episode of any series that I know Tim might not find interesting. When Tim wakes up, we prepare lunch then we either read, watch old movies or paint.

In the evening, we have crackers and cheese and sit and discuss things while having tea. We also arrange Zoom Meetings with our friends to catch up. We always end up talking about the pandemic. I try to avoid the topic but people keep bringing it up. When friends or families send me a whatsapp message about it, I ignore and not reply. I believe in energy and if it is constantly being brought up, you attract the negative energy on yourself and the universe. I believe in praying or asking the universe for good health and to decrease the illness and make the world a better place.

Anyway this is what we have been doing at home and as soon as I finish reading 2 books, I will sign up for a Master Class and also an online language course to learn new things.

Let me know what you do and share how you spend your time at home.
