ABU DHABI – Qasr Al Hosn

On New Years Day, we decided to check out Qasr Al Hosn. An old fort since 1760s and in 1790’s Sheikh Shakhbut Al Nahyan constructed a tower which became the residency of the ruling Sheikh.

In 1930’s, they managed to extend the fort from the revenues they’ve earned when they granted the first oil license. Qasr Al Hosn was a palace and a place where the government would meet until 1966 when Abu Dhabi started expanding on the island.

Qasr Al Hosn is now a historical museum and is open to the public.

How To Maintain Your Relationship When Travelling?

So my previous post ‘I choose travelling with my partner than by myself BUT there’s a catch…’, yall know that I prefer to travel with my husband rather than being alone.

I’ve mentioned why travelling with my partner is better but no matter how much we love each other or have similarities there will always be minor disagreements.

If you are currently in a relationship, Tim and I recommend that you guys should travel together. You will be surprised how much you’ll learn a lot about one another. Travelling can either make your relationship stronger or make you grow apart.

Here are our tips on how to maintain your relationship when travelling:

  1. Agree on a Budget: before booking any trip, you both have to discuss your budget and how much you want to spend. So we write down an itinerary of where we want to go and places we want to visit and then look at forms of transportation and compare rates.
  2. Plan an Itinerary: I’ve to admit, our itinerary changes when we arrive to our destination however we have a plan. So before finalising the itinerary, we both write down the locations we want to visit of the country we are going to. So after listing the places, we then discuss and make it work so we both get to do the things we want together.
  3. Be Ready to Compromise: Like I said our itinerary doesn’t always work according to plan. It changes on circumstances and you need to be ready for that. (Compromising has to be from both)
  4. Communicate & Be Honest: If there’s something you do not like and do not want to do. Tell your partner rather than giving attitude and ruining the day. We’ve seen it in other couples and we agreed to discuss things if it doesn’t make us feel comfortable. For example, I really did not want to go for the Japanese Bath (Sentō) but after discussing it for 5 days LOL. Tim managed to convince me.
  5. Plan a Date Night or a Surprise: I know sounds corny but it works. There are times where Tim and I have no plans so we look up romantic places to visit and go on a date together. For example in Morocco, I booked a table in advance and planned a proper meal with entertainment for Tim’s birthday. It keeps the sparks *wink wink*

So when travelling with your partner, remember to compromise, to plan, to communicate and to be romantic; and the outcome of your trip will truly be worthwhile.

A Short Break from Travelling

Hi Everyone,

After 2 weeks of not posting on the blog, here I am writing with not even a slight interest in doing so.

2 weekends ago Tim and I joined Mimi and Noor for a weekend stay in Georgia the country, it was a needed holiday and we celebrated Noor’s 30TH Birthday. We visited 9 beautiful places which of course I will write about separately.  Last weekend Tim and I went to a place called XSpace with our friends Reuven and Christina. Where you get locked in a room and had to solve riddles to be able to get out.

This year, Tim and I have travelled to Japan, Philippines, Hong Kong, Macau and Georgia. I’ve added those places on my trip advisor travel map and I got ‘completed 8% of the world’. Next week, I’ll be travelling  to Lebanon to renew my travel document. After that trip Tim and I will be taking a short break from travelling abroad due to unpredictable circumstances.

Writing this really hurts but thankfully I was able to see 8% of this planet and the 92% can wait for some time. I’m blessed and grateful to be able to travel to as many places as I did. So I’m not saying that I will stop travelling but will be taking a short break till things work out.

I’ll be continuing to blog about living in UAE and the remaining pending destinations that I did not include in the blog. So sadly, here I am announcing a break from travel for some time till things pick up again.  I’m very thankful for the opportunity that I had to see those places and share those memories with the man I love. I’m not pessimistic about this break, you’ll never know how things in life can turn around. We don’t know what tomorrow brings.

Keep loving life no matter what obstacles you face and everything will go fine 🙂

Cheers

xx

Appam Corner – Dubai Investment Park

One of the best and affordable Indian restaurants in Dubai Investment Park. We gave it a try when we read free unlimited Appams and visited quite few times ever since. Appams are type of bread displayed in the picture below.

Tim had the meat thali while I had the veggie thali. Thali is a meal where different types of curries are served on a leaf.  When I say it’s affordable, I do mean it; the meals range from £2 – £6. If ever you feel like having Indian food, do give it a try. Thali’s are always the best but only served for lunch so if you go there for dinner I recommend the Tandoori Combo.

The restaurant is good for people who love meat and vegans.

WE NEED TO CHANGE OUR TRAVEL STYLE

I’ve been travelling since the age of 1. My first trip was to the Philippines; however, my mum and I had a stopover in Brunei which makes it the first country I’ve ever visited. As a child, my travel was limited and it was only between Lebanon and Philippines. Since being born and raised in Dubai, my parents did not want me to forget my roots.

10945552_10153093448897277_5203237178321388730_n.jpg

My first diverse route was to Syria where I visited historical places. Syria was only a 2 hour drive from where we stayed in Lebanon. Then in 2010 I’ve travelled to a new destination outside my comfort zone and that’s where I caught the travel bug. That destination was India, later I couldn’t stop travelling; I visited Oman, Brunei again, Spain, Germany and Malaysia. So from family travels, I diverted to visiting new destinations outside my culture to witness the other countries touristic attractions.

Years later in 2014, I booked a last minute ticket to Singapore and ended up meeting my husband. Our trip included fun activities such as visiting Singapore Zoo and Universal Studios. In my blog ‘How We Met’ (https://belliontravels.com/2016/06/17/singapore/) , I’ve mentioned that we met every month in a new country to sustain our long distance relationship. Since they were short trips, we became travellers who squeezed a lot of touristic attractions and fun activities in a short period of time.

Once we got married, our travel habit has changed. Since we both have full time jobs and have limited annual leave, we decided to visit as many places as we can and the trip ends up to be rapido rapido rapido……

After taking 2 weeks off of work, we managed to visit Japan, Philippines, Macau and Hong Kong. I was beyond content and especially that Japan affected me a lot. I thought I took really awesome pictures for the blog and social media accounts until 5 of my friends who visited Japan a week after me took similar pictures and that’s when I realised that Tim and I need to change our travel style.

2017 trip.jpg

When I was having lunch with Tim and my brother ‘Mohammad’, I was telling them that something was missing in my travels. I want something different and unique. At this stage, I’ve decided to travel to new places and learn as much as I can until I find the right style. Where myself and others can benefit from.

So for now and hopefully not for long, we will be the kind of travellers who cram as much knowledge as we can but someday we will find what I’m searching for.

Arabian Tea House

Arabian Tea House was recommended by my dear friend Christina. Tim and I visited old Dubai several times for Art Night, Dubai Treasure Hunt and many other events.

Arabian Tea House (2)

Arabian Tea House is one of the few original and cultural places in Dubai that serves Arabic food in an old traditional Emirati house. The restaurant is a mix of Gulf and Levant dishes. Their Arabic coffee is a must; they prepare it really well. If you ever want to try it make sure to ask the waiter to boil the coffee, it brings out the flavor.

The prices are fairly reasonable and their salads are very delicious. If you are visiting from abroad, I recommend you take Al Fahidi station and walk towards the Dubai Museum or Creek. Take the traditional Abra ride for AED 1 equivalent to £ 0.21 to go to the Gold Souq on your way back take the Abra and stop at Arabian Tea House for a traditional meal.

Life ‘n One

If you are a Vegan or in love with Yoga and Nature then Life ‘n One is the best place for you. I asked Tim where he wanted to go for lunch and he said he wanted something healthy. So I took him to a Vegan place and Tim loves meat so I laughed a lot when he was going through the menu.

Life N One

Anyway the place is not quite difficult to find and parking is not an issue. It is a reasonable sized villa that offers Yoga and Meditation classes. In the backyard or as the English call it a garden, they have a cosy set up with wooden tables and chairs and very colourful theme for people to enjoy their meal, work on their laptop or even read a book.

LifeNOne(3)

Life ‘n One is slightly over charged (that’s my opinion) but overall the experience was pleasant. They served us flavoured water, Tim had a vegan burger and I ordered a quinoa salad with kale. In addition, we both had seaweed salad on the side which was my favourite.

So if ever you want to visit, I’d say morning would be the best time and also the place is animal friendly. Oh one of more info, you’ll pay your bill at the exit where you can also enquire about the Yoga and Meditation classes.

Al Ain Trip – Rotana, Jebel Hafeet & Trader Vics

Oh Crap! I missed a Saturday post last week and I knew I would.

Many things are currently happening in my personal and work life. Well everyone has things going on but you know when a lot of things just suddenly happen at the same time well that’s what is currently happening to me.

For Tim to have an enjoyable long weekend, I booked a standard room for a 1-night stay at Rotana Al Ain. We usually arrive 1 or 2 hours before check in however this time we decided to check in on time but on that day, we were so unlucky that the hotel had a lot of guests so because of the delay we checked in after 2 hours. As curtsy, the hotel upgraded our room to a 1-bedroom suite with a living room and dining table. In addition, they offered a late check out.

You can skip my mini story and continue to Hotel Review….

Story Time:

As soon as we got to our rooms, we changed into our swimming suits and went to the pool. I have a weird and funny story to tell you. As Tim and I were sitting by the pool, kids from the ages of 4 – 7 years were jumping in the adult pool. So the signs say clearly no jumping, no diving and kids must be accompanied by an adult. Anyway we were getting splashed a lot by those little kids and Tim just got up and looked at the life guard without even saying a word.

The life guard approached the parents to tell them that their kids have to swim in the children’s pool and that they are disturbing hotel guests. The mothers started shouting at Tim for no reason and we did not even make eye contact with their kids or even shouted at them.

Anyway some drunk man sitting next to me starts shouting at Tim and making hideous comments in Arabic and that’s where I come in place. I started an argument with the man in Arabic which made him speechless because he didn’t expect me to speak Arabic. After few minutes, he comes to us and apologises for his action and we became friends. He even asked the mothers to apologise to Tim but obviously they did not. He even told us that we taught him a lesson to not speak in Arabic in front of anyone.

Anyway he took us to Jebel Hafeet (mountain) to view the city from the top.  The view of the town was amazing and the drive was adventurous but dangerous. Here is the funny part, the drunk guy insisted to take our photo at the mountain and this is how it turned out.

Hotel Review:

Although they checked us in really late, I would still recommend the hotel. The fact that they upgraded our room and even provided late check out, that says it all. While waiting to check in, Tim and I sat in the private lounge where they served free coffee, juices, tea and croissants. The hotel is not that expensive for a 5 star. The pool is reasonably big and also has a mini Jacuzzi for the adults.

Tim and I had breakfast at a restaurant called Zest that serves buffet throughout the day. The hotel also has a pool bar, a Lebanese restaurant and a Latin, Caribbean and Asian Fusion restaurant called Trader Vics which is well known in Dubai. We went there at 10pm and there was a live band performing Latin music. The food was delicious and the setting makes you feel like you are on an island. We really enjoyed our time.

Wokyo – Japanese Noodle Restaurant in Dubai

Wokyo serves the best Japanese noodles in Dubai. They are located in JLT, Cluster J. Tim and I must have visited that place more than 3 times already and tried all kinds of noodles and sauces.

WOK (3)

It’s very similar to the concept of Subway but instead of Sandwiches, you are getting NOODLES. YES!!!! YOU READ RIGHT. NOOOODLESSSSSS

WOK 4

The staff are very friendly and the service is prompt. The restaurant sells Japanese products as well as has Japanese board games and books to entertain yourself and of course origami.

WOK (1).jpg

WOK (2).jpg

The place is worth visiting and you can go for a nice walk around the area after finishing your meal. It’s one of the best Japanese casual restaurants that Tim and I enjoy going back to.
